Hawaii License to Carry Course
The License to Carry Class fulfills your Hawaii education requirement for a Honolulu county license to carry, under HRS 134-9: four hours of classroom and two hours of live fire at the range.
Before you book, you must:
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Own a registered firearm in Hawaii
- Provide a copy of your firearm(s) registration no later than the first class
- Provide a valid government picture ID before class starts. The name you provide must match your valid government issued picture ID.
This course must cover:
- Firearm safety
- Firearm handling
- Shooting technique
- Safe storage
- Legal methods to transport firearms and secure firearms in vehicles
- Laws governing places in which persons are prohibited from carrying a firearm
- Firearm usage in low-light situations
- Situational awareness and conflict management
- Laws governing firearms, including information regarding the circumstances in which deadly force may be used for self-defense or the defense of another
- A component on mental health and mental health resources
Bring to the live fire portion:
- Eye and hearing protection
- Your firearm(s) for the exam, holster and gun belt
- Firearm magazines (we recommend at least three)
- Closed-toe shoes, long pants and a high-necked shirt
Your fee includes a reference book, two affidavits notarized upon successful class completion, and one live fire proficiency test. Additional tests are available as an add-on.

This is a multi-day event
Each session spans multiple days. When you register, you are signing up for all days within that session. Attendance on every scheduled day is required to complete the training.
