Basic Handgun Safety Class
The Basic Firearm Safety Class fulfills your Hawaii education requirement for handgun and long-gun purchases, under HRS 134-2: four hours of classroom and two hours of live fire at the range.
Before you book, you must:
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Be eligible to own a firearm in Hawaii
- Provide a valid government picture ID before class starts. The name you provide must match your valid government issued picture ID.
This course must cover:
- The safe use, handling, and proper storage of firearms
- Firearms safety in the home
- Education on firearms laws in the state of Hawaii
Bring to class: eye and hearing protection, note-taking supplies, and closed-toe shoes, long pants and a high-necked shirt.
Your fee includes a textbook, range fees, ammunition used in class, and a notarized affidavit upon successful class completion. We provide the firearms for the live fire portion.
Day 1 is classroom time only. Day 2 is live fire at the range.

This is a multi-day event
Each session spans multiple days. When you register, you are signing up for all days within that session. Attendance on every scheduled day is required to complete the training.
